| Thanks to that brilliant blonde wonder, I was reminded that I do, in fact, have a xanga and it has been quite a long time since it's been updated. Things are really going great, and staying in Champaign this summer was a great choice. It was a tough decision though because I loooooove being home and hanging out with all the amazing people I have at home, but to work with Dr. Knox and his grad students doing research and finally actually getting a solid idea on what I want to do for th rest of my life has been wonderful. I regret not making the decision sooner and inadvertantly leaving people (including my dad!) in the dark that I was even considering not coming home, but in the end, staying was the best. I work for a reproductive physiologist, specializing in swine (i know, i know, more pigs) and for now, I'm their little slave. I prepare each grad student for their upcoming experiements, making surgery solutions, doing orders (on the PHONE! =) I'm growing up!), and gathering the data from ultrasound dvd's (more than 60 of em... *sigh*) amongst the other wee tasks that keep me busy. However, my boss said that he'd be glad to take me on for grad school after I graduate next year. (and for free!) I'm considering getting a master's degree in Reproductive Physiology, then working for an IVF clinic. Then from there deciding if that's fun enough to do for years or if I want to go to vet school for large animal medicine or.... med school to be a *gasp!* OB/GYN. Please don't pass out! I just think that after the lab work for an IVF clinic, I'd feel the urge to see the whole process through. So that would mean med school or nursing school. But who knows! Campus is so nice during the summer, there are less crowds, people seems happier, and there are much fewer drunks in the streets. My apartment with Tracy McGee (not her actual last name, but I love it!) is wonderful, although sometimes hot. She's a great roommate and I'm really looking forward to sharing one with her and Jen next year! There has been some unavoidable drama in our wee group of friends that has stayed in Champaign for the summer, but of course there would be some, it's hot and we're all together, all the time. I know it's hard to believe but I, Dian Canaday, have been in a relationship for more than a year now. Who would have thought?! Vikram Chaudhery, the poor jerk, has put up with me for that long, and had even waited out my Scotland escapades and I've gotta say that I couldn't be happier. He's just perfect, understanding, funny, smart, and just so cute! And can fulfill my accent requirement when asked to. Hahaha.... ah. He's in Champaign for the summer as well, also working for a professor of his, being as brilliant as usual. It's nice to be in the same place for more than a week for once, although, he was very supportive of me going home for the summer if that's what I thought was the better choice. He just makes me so happy! Last semester, speaking of happy, I did relatively well in classes, all A's except Organic Chemistry which I got B's. =( Next semester will be tough though, I'm taking Physiology, Advanced Reproductive Physiology, Advanced Reproductive Managment, Band, and Physics. GAH! Stupid Physics, but I'll get through it. ...Somehow. The family seems to be doing well, Conor graduated high school, even after pulling a prank using the P.A. system and getting suspended. Just recently he came down to Champaign for his orientation because the little punk's going to U of I in the fall, majoring in Psycology. Dad's doing great, working hard at work and here at home with all of his and mom's home improvement projects like the upstairs bathroom, downstairs bathroom, side deck, keepin the cars running and the dogs from destroying everything. He's also playing in his work's softball tournament, pitching every game and he just finished another semester at JJC. Darn guy's gonna have a higher G.P.A. than me pretty soon! Mom's doing well despite some drama at work. Seems like she's the only honest, hard-working person at her school but she's stickin to her guns! She's applied to a few different places though, because, honestly, who wants to work with a bunch of sleezy, backstabbing jerks. I'm sure she's happy to be done for the school year though. So, I guess things are going really well for me, besides a bad toothache (stupid cavities...), and I'm really really happy. Sarah Jane came down for a few days with Jennifer Murley, and it was great fun! They're both so cute =). I'm studying for the GRE (another ACT sorta thing) and for physiology thanks to constant reminder by Vikram. I feel so good, studying, hanging out with the friends I had to sort of push away during my battle with chemistry, working with Knox and his students, and being relatively independent (AKA making my own dinner in an actual kitchen). I hope everyone's doing well, and please keep me updated on everything. I miss you all so much!!
Love, ~Didi =)
